Like a peace-signing guy interrupting David Niven in 1974, tickets for the second annual Big Oscars Quiz Thing are streaking out the door fast. Sunday, March 2, we’re at our old stomping grounds of Le Poisson Rouge in Greenwich Village, for a fantastic hybrid event: From 6 to 7pm, it’s an abbreviated multimedia team trivia spectacular, all about those most glamorous of showbiz laurels, the Academy Awards. Then, at 7, we turn on the red-carpet coverage for a deluxe screening of the entire Oscars ceremony, But fear not, trivia obsessives: The primo quizmastering continues throughout the night, as I’ll wander the crowd during commercial breaks, microphone and prizes in hand, challenging volunteers on copious amounts of the world’s finest movie questions.
Ah, yes, prizes. As mentioned earlier, one of our best prize-partner friends is really stepping up for the BOQT—On Location Tours, NYC’s (and Boston’s) finest source for showbiz-themed guided outings. We got a passel of passes from them, in addition to sweet treats from old pals Thumbs Cookies. Also: Plenty of theater tickets! The return of three fine, fine Off Broadway productions: the light and dance spectacular iLuminate, the wonderfully Jewy comedy Handle with Care, and the flat-out brilliant one-man show Buyer & Cellar. And joining the stage throng:
Courtesy the excellently named theater company Ripe Time, it's a spankin'-new stage adaptation of Gertrude Stein's 1939 children's book, a "folk opera fable" about a young girl who seeks to conquer a mountain, as all young girls should. The World Is Round features an original rock score, aerial choreography, and immersive video design, and thus "transports us to the joys and fears childhood and the arduous path towards becoming a woman of ambition." And hey, hot venue: It's at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM, to you real New Yorkers), April 17 through 30. Learn more, and get tickets, on BAM's website.
More prize partners on the way…plus, during the mid-ceremony trivia, I'll be playing Santa Quizmaster, with a bag of movie-related books, DVDs, and other swag for the winning. It all happens Sunday, March 2, at Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker Street). Make it happen, Hollywood star…
