Yonkers, ho, once again. Last November, the Big Quiz Thing voyaged out to the first ever NYC-area location of what is arguably (ah, hell with it, let’s say inarguably) the best movie theater in the USA: The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. Born in Austin, Texas, 17 years ago, Alamo has attracted a fervent following for its quality programming, its quality food (served directly at your seat!), and its quality policy exiling those who insist on yapping on their phones during screenings.
Plus its quality events, including the BQT. Our November debut was a fantastic hit—a sold-out evening of Multimedia Movie Trivia, adapting our format for the fixed-seating venue (four players at a time, buzzers) and attracting a whole bunch of Westchester-based BQT newbies (plus NYC heavy-hitter team the Fantastic Fournicators, motoring in from the city). So we’re doing it again: Thursday, January 23, at 8pm. Featuring a rafter of the BQT’s trademark video and audio film-based puzzles: the Bipolar Movie Challenge (but of course), the Movie Quote Thesaurus, Rebus-O-Rama, the Movie Title Mind-Bender, the Same Name Movie-Music Mash-Up, Three Degrees of Movies, and plenty more uses of the word movie, not to mention plenty of the world’s greatest cinematically themed trivia questions. Prizes are sweet, too: Plenty of free drinks and passes for the Alamo, truly a movie theater several dozen cuts above your standard megaplex. (What other place decorates its lobby with custom-made posters for classic films?)
Tickets are available right now; pick them up, tell your Yonkers-area friends, and live the dream.
