NYC prize sponsor: The Moth

Wanted to catch y'all before the long weekend, so here's yet more about the prize sponsors for Tuesday at SubCulture. (Access earlier intel about the show here, here, and here.) Here's a semi-new prize partner (they backed us up once upon a time in L.A.): the one, the only…The Moth.

Perhaps the country's premier live storytelling event, The Moth is nigh legendary at this point. Like the BQT, it began in NYC and expanded to events nationwide, including regular StorySlams here in its home city at a whole mess of venues. Storytellers for most events (each based on a theme) are chosen from the crowd by lottery, with those judged the best by the audience invited to take part in higher-profile productions, a wildly popular podcast, a book, and a big etc. A creative empire, all built on the fact that artists like to talk about themselves—genius. (BTW, I personally participated in the Moth once; the theme was "Animals." Told my eternally titanic story about chasing a cat through Newark Airport. Came in second place, never went back. That's a mike-drop move in the quizmaster world, I believe.)
