#BQTonTV party/quiz performers and prize sponsors: The New York Neo-Futurists

All right, think I got a handle on the mondo-sized list of prize sponsors for our Sneak Preview TV Screening Party and Quiz at the Highline Ballroom (coming up fast on July 9; grab them tickets). Time to turn the spotlight on a prize sponsor that's more than a prize sponsor: Behold, NYC's kings of professional short-form comedy, The New York Neo-Futurists:

In working with NYC Media to conceptualize the BQT TV show, we bandied about a bunch of wacky ideas (mounting a camera on the front of an NYC subway car didn't withstand much scrutiny), but one that survived was recruiting a top NYC comedy group to act out scenes from memorable New York–themed movies and Broadway musicals, for the contestants to guess, of course. And we hit the jackpot: The New York Neo-Futurists, an offshoot of a legendary Chicago comedy powerhouse, are a professional troupe advocating the performance concept of "Neo-Futurism" (learn about it here, but the most important takeaway is that they're really, really funny). You can see them in action every Friday and Saturday night at the East Village's Kraine Theatre, where they stage their long-running flagship show, Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind—in which you witness the hilarious results of the Neos staging, no joke, 30 plays in 60 minutes. Four of the NYNF's marquee performers, including managing director Rob Neill, joined the #BQTonTV process, expertly loaning their talents to a bunch of games you'll see in various episodes of the series. And now they're making the scene at the big July 9 Highline Ballroom event, delighting the audience with a quick comedy performance to get the night rolling. And bonus: They're tossing a few passes to Too Much Light (which routinely sells out) into the big ol' prize basket.
