Bittersweet news, my friends: One of our most beloved NYC venues, 92YTribeca, is closing. Let us bow our heads: Lo, though 'twas the site of the biggest live trivia blockbuster in NYC history (our Tenth Anniversary Quiz Show Marathon Spectacular), not to mention our fabulous Oscars quiz last February and January's Family Quiz, it's rolling up the carpet in a few weeks, as the powers-that-be would rather focus their energies on the actually-92nd-Steet-located location. Boo! I think I'll miss the café's specialty lemonades most of all (pineapple + basil = teetotaler bliss).
But I at least will have one last hurrah, taking part in the final event in the venue's posh screening room: Our good friend Kevin Maher is presenting another edition of his ace multimedia variety show, Kevin Geeks Out, this Friday night, June 14, at 8pm. As Mr. Maher often does, he's inviting me to challenge a few audience volunteers with a mini quiz, and this edition is actually a reprise of the first ever KGO I guested at, Kevin Geeks Out About Monkeys. Prepare for video clips and pontification on all things pop-cultural and simian: everything from King Kong to the Nairobi Trio, plus laughs, prizes, treats, and unclassifiable delights, all hosted by the man who is, in my opinion, the second-best show host in New York City. (One guess who the first is.)
Details here, tickets here (they usually sell out); see you there to pour one out for our homie.
