NYC quiz preview: THE BIG '80S QUIZ THING, this Tuesday!

 

I've been blabbing about our Big '80s Quiz Thing, this Tuesday night at the glorious Cutting Room, though mostly about the live band karaoke  aspect (courtesy the Human Karaoke Experience). Though can you blame me, bowled over by the totally-to-the-max awesomeness as I am?

In addition to HKE, there'll be the usual grab bag of BQT game show delights: Five rounds of multimedia trivia action (including "'80s Movie Quotes: All Chopped Up," "'80s TV Themes: Backwards!," "Ronald Reagan Had a Filthy Mouth," and "You'll Never Get Out of This Decade Alive"), the Lightning Round, the buzzerlicious Three Way Finale, the Text Message Challenge, and so much more. And some extra good news: Despite the swankitude of the Cutting Room, the sightlines aren't ideal, but we're compensating by bringing in an extra screen. For you, it's worth it. (Though note: The venue is indeed instituting a $15 minimum. Have some dinner, have some drinks.)

And of course, of course: You want to know about prizes. $200 for the ultimate victors, plus a passel of goodies from some of our old friends. Extremely apropos to the '80s theme, we got tickets to the new Off Broadway nostalgia spectacular, The Totally Tubular Time Machine…

…the unbearably cute bakery goodness of Thumbs Cookies…

…a big basket of delicious solace from Tribeca Treats…

 …the world of variety excitement offered by Annie's Blue Ribbon General Store…

 …plus some new friends. Randomly but awesomely, we've gotten our hands on a bag of honest-to-goodness '80s vinyl—vinyl records!—from Stray Vintage records in Queens.

Some real fun stuff in this bag: Elvis Costello's first (of many) greatest-hits collection, a little ABBA, Depeche Mode, a 45 of "We Are the World," maybe a little Culture Club. I'm really thinking about buying another record player and keeping these for myself.
