NYC preview: Tuesday, Jan 8

Joy, oh joy: It's 2013, and we're less than a week till the BQT returns to the borough of its birth lo that single decade ago: Manhattan, a.k.a. "the city" to the outer-borough-resistant. And not just anywhere in Manhattan:  the Cutting Room, one of the city's hottest new performance venues to open in many an age.

The fun we got planned is almost indescribable, even by BQT standards: a fresh crop of our most beloved video puzzle, "The Bipolar Movie Challenge"; the debut of what seriously might be our best audio puzzle ever, "Maraca Musing (Anagram Music)"; and the A-list comedic delights of our opening act, the one and only Christian Finnegan.

But what about prizes, the greedy among you ask? We provide. $200 for the winners, naturally, and a whole passel of sweet tickets. Really, I mean it. Perhaps sweetest…

Spidey et al. were prize sponsors for the NYC edition of our Tenth Anniversary Quiz Marathon, and they're back with more web-slinging excitement for quizgoers. I saw this show, I loved this show, and I mean that. (Sure, it's not exactly mind-stimulating theater, but if you have fun by having fun, you will most certainly have fun.)

NYC's leaders in entertainment tour experiences, OLT have been BQT prize partners for quite some time now, and we currently got them pitching in both for Tuesday—specifically with their Sex and the City Tour—and for the Big Family Quiz Thing, only a few days later. (Yeah, we figure the SATC tour will work better for an all-grown-up show, don't you?)

How does one explain the Actors Fund? They are at the heart of all that makes Broadway great (hey, they're even roping us into doing a special theater quiz event in the near future). Due to their massive pull, various Broadway productions, sometime during their runs, do a special performance specifically for the Actors Fund membership—past performances have included Once, Wicked, The Book of Mormon, The Lion King…basically, everything you wish you could afford. And you (yes, maybe you) will be invited to one of these.

"New York City’s only Interactive, Intergalactic, Pop Music Experience," Totally Tubular Time Machine is an immersive performance featuring—get this—uncannily accurate pop-music impersonators. Only in NYC, kids (maybe in L.A. too). The show begins previews January 19 at legendary dance haven Culture Club—tickets are on sale now. And yes, we're giving away passes at the aforementioned Big '80s Quiz Thing—but we're throwing in a couple this Tuesday, 'cause we're good like that.
