In one of the tightest Big Quiz Thing L.A. competitions in history, outstanding newcomers Echo Echo Team Team took on returning veterans Team Discovery Channel, Gelatinous Cube and Long Ewoks on the Beach in a battle for $200 and the distinction of being the final BQT L.A. champions of 2012 (and, if the world ends on December 21, ever!). Echo Echo Team Team barely missed out on the Three-Way Finale, but did go home with a $25 gift certificate to Busby's East, several bags of cookies and two free passes to a future BQT L.A.
In the finale, points leader Long Ewoks on the Beach put up a valiant fight, but eventually settled for third behind vaunted Gelatinous Cube, making a long-awaited trip back to the finals, and Team Discovery Channel, led by birthday boy Michael Riggs (who also received birthday cookies and a Pirate's Booty Styrofoam sword from the quizmaster). In the end, thanks to apparently intimate knowledge of Jane Fonda's 1980s exercise videos, there was no crying at this birthday party—as Michael led his team to glorious victory and $200 in cold, hard cash. Gelatinous Cube didn't go home empty-handed, though, as they received tickets to
Mystery Trip L.A. and the
Laugh Factory, both stalwart prize partners of BQT L,A. Whether it was your birthday or not, it was truly a great way to wrap up a fantastic 2012 for The Big Quiz Thing in Los Angeles!
