This Saturday: The RE/Mixed Media Festival

The hits just keep on coming: Fresh from our success at last weekend's New York Comic Con (blog post here forthcoming), I'm doing another very different festival this Saturday, in Brooklyn: the RE/Mixed Media Festival. An awesomely multimedia celebration of "remix art & culture": the mashing up of genres, media and cultures that seems to suffuse every element of this 21st-century culture in which we live.

Last year was the first edition of RE/Mixed, and it was an enjoyably brainy experience; I got schooled on the making of a video game that cruelly manipulates its players. Knowing the BQT's proclivity for mashing up pictures, sounds and ideas, the creators of RE/Mixed asked me to do a quick one-hour quiz, and so it will be, this Saturday at 1pm, at the Underwater Lounge in Dumbo. (Expect a few of the BQT's greatest video-puzzle hits.) But the rest of the fest schedule is not to be slept on: There's a panel of game culture; plenty of remix-centric video shorts, installations, and live music; and various discussions of copyright law in the modern media landscape. Brooklyn, folks.
