Recap: It all ends with Grandpa Munster

Or at least tonight's Big Quiz Thing ended with him. That's Al Lewis, who attained fame as the vampiric grandfather on everyone's favorite non–Addams Family spooky-family sitcom of the 1960s, The Munsters. (Did you know that there was a postcancellation Munsters movie—in color—called Munster Go Home? It is on Netflix…er, Qwikster…but you first.) Years later, he became a perennial independent candidate for governor of New York, which Steve of the Fantastic Fournicators pulled out after a little thought to win the Three-Way Finale. (He also lucked out on a wild guess for a sports toughie—What’s the total number of s's in the first and last names of the two women who were US Open finalists last week? )

Otherwise, tonight was interesting. Our return to M1-5, a neat little venue that we'll be trying again in October. EDP and I feel (and yes, Bex is coming back) that the stage there is a bit too distant from you all, so removed from the seating—we keep expected a team of burly security guards to erect a metal barrier four feet in front of us. But it's got a cool vibe, and a great location. Let us know your thoughts.

And, of course, we partook in a little Boggle—"Let's Play Boggle" is one of my all-time favorite video puzzles, and you folks were obscenely good at it (better than Boston, if you must know). I'm proud to say that the one you had the most trouble with was finding slang terms for heroin. (I've always liked scag. The word, that is.) It's totally worth it, sitting there and playing with letter cubes for a few hours. Other highlights: The "Tunes That Ain't Got No Good Grammar" audio round (we all learned of Gloria Gaynor's abuse of the distinction between lay and lie); the "Eyes Without a Face" four-parter (a pair of shiny lemons: the windows into C-3PO's soul); and the "International Ménage-a-Quatre" four-parter (I know, it's nearly impossible to keep all the -stans straight).
