Since the primordial-ooze days of the Big Quiz Thing, we've given away treats as part of the prize haul: cookies, doughnuts, occasionally the salty delights that EDP is more partial to. The reasons for this are neither easy to explain nor very interesting, but needless to say, people love it.
And it's most exciting when we get one of the city's many fabulous professional bakeries to pitch in as a sponsor, and so it will be this Monday night…
Cupcakes as prizes! Yay! The fine folks at Butter Lane specialize in cupcakes, and what excellent cupcakes they are. This place is class all the way, using only superior ingredients and taking their baking method with a seriousness befitting the best foodie obsessives. (I mean, their website drills down into the differences between French and American buttercream icing.)
They also feature mighty fine ice cream, cake pops (I need to try one of those), and various other goodies. Stop by their flagship in the East Village, 123 East 7th Street, between First and A, or their new Park Slope location, 240 Seventh Ave between 4th and 5th Streets. And eat a cupcake, dammit—they are indeed good for you, if you define good one of several valid ways.
